The Regional Community Institute of Northeast Florida, Inc. (RCI) is a non-profit organization that does policy work for the Northeast Florida Regional Council.  In 2014, RCI is launching the R2 Challenge to encourage residents to participate in events to support businesses, personal wellbeing and civic engagement in the seven counties of Northeast Florida. We are committed to resiliency and the Region. First Coast Fresh Family Farms is our 2014 partner. First Coast Fresh allows growers to pool their resources and buying power so they can market their food to local, regional and national buyers, eliminating the need for a middleman.  Supporting them helps build resilience across our region!

First Coast Fresh events will help you meet the R2 Challenge, along with attendance at educational meetings on sea level rise, making an entry at a county agricultural fair, finishing a organized walk, run, or bike ride, adopting a shelter pet or participating at a listed civic event in any of the seven counties of Northeast Florida.  When you complete a qualifying event in each of the seven counties, you win the challenge, earn your spot on the 2014 R2 Wall of Fame and know you’ve contributed to the future of Northeast Florida, its farmers, and its communities.

What is the R2 Challenge?
A competition to reach the goal of participation in an R2Challenge event or visiting an R2Challenge venue in each of the seven counties in the Northeast Florida region: Baker, Clay, Duval, Flagler, Nassau, Putnam, and St. Johns Counties.

How do I register for the R2 Challenge?
Make a $25 donation to RCI, and register for the challenge at https://r2challenge.eventbrite.com.  Once you are registered, you have until December 31, 2014 to log an event in each of the seven counties.

How do I log events?
Send an Instagram or e-mail with a photo of you at the event, with an identifier of the venue in the photo. Or attach a photo or copy of your fair entry, your restaurant bill, a sign-in sheet.  You get the idea.  Something that lets us know you were there.  Try to learn all you can about the venue and Northeast Florida while you are there.  This is the point.  E-mails go to R2@nefrc.org. Or follow us on  Instagram (R2 Challenge), Pinterest (R2Challenge) or Twitter (@R2Challenge).

What happens when I win?
Log events in seven different counties, and you are a winner! Once you have won the challenge, we will post your name and photo on the Pinterest R2 Challenge Wall of Fame.  We’ll contact you when you win-then you can let all your friends know you are R2!

About First Coast Fresh
You know this stuff.  Regions are more successful when the people and communities within them work together towards a common goal.  Regional resiliency means that we support each other every day, especially when faced by challenges, and that we strive for a sustainable, healthy, economically-stable, engaged and caring regional community.  What you may not know is how hard local growers work and the challenges they face from weather, economics, crop-yield inconsistencies, regulations and competition from outside of our Region.  If our local growers fail, Northeast Florida may never get back the resiliency that comes from the local food sources, the jobs they support, or the education they provide.  You can help them!  Ask your local grocer to buy from them. Use their produce and share it with friends. Check out their website at www.FirstCoastFresh.com.

Enter the R2 Challenge!
Every time you attend an approved civic event, eat at a restaurant that buys from First Coast Fresh or participate in an event they sponsor, you get closer to winning. Build the momentum, protect our future, and together we ALL win!
